Guayaquil Cacao Tour: Experience the Chocolate Making Process

Ecuador's Golden Bean: A Sensory Pilgrimage to Cacao Country

Beyond the reach of the city, where the coastal plains fold into groves heavy with fruit, lies the story of a bean that shaped a nation's fortune. This is a day given over entirely to cacao — to the hands that harvest it, the traditions that honor it, and the quiet alchemy that turns it into chocolate.

🌱 Your Journey Through Cacao Country

1. Arrival at the Hacienda: Montubio Country

We leave Guayaquil behind and follow the road into Ecuador's coastal lowlands, home to the Montubio — the farmers whose way of life has shaped this land for generations. Amid groves planted long before memory, your morning begins.

2. Through the Plantation: A Botanical Walk

Beneath a canopy heavy with fruit, we wander the estate's trails, pausing to taste nearly a dozen tropical fruits pulled straight from the branch. Your guide traces the quiet order of the plantation — how each tree, each row, has its place in a rhythm centuries old.

3. From Pod to Pulp: The Harvest

We open a fresh cacao pod together, tasting the sweet white pulp — the "baba" — that few travelers ever encounter. From here, the process reveals itself: fermentation, sun-drying, and the careful roasting that begins to coax out chocolate's first true notes.

4. The Alchemy of Chocolate: A Hands-On Workshop

At the heart of the hacienda, tradition becomes craft. Working alongside artisans, you'll grind and refine roasted beans into your own chocolate bar — a process unchanged since Ecuador earned its reputation as home to the world's finest fine-aroma cacao.

5. A Table Set in the Farm's Own Cabin

The day closes as it should: with a traditional lunch served in the farm's own cabin, ingredients drawn from the same soil that grew your chocolate. A fitting final course to a day spent tracing cacao from seed to bar.
