More than 100 years of history and about 12,000 objects are inside the Municipal Museum building. Opened on August 10th 1909, it has rooms inside where you can visit art and archaeology from many different periods. Guayaquil society at the beginning of the 20th century has a passion for recovering its own history and leaving testimony of it.
The Municipal Museum building underwent several modifications and restorations until the present building was built. Nowadays you can visit collections from the following periods: Prehistory, Colony, Independence, Republic, and XX century. Sacred Art, Numismatics. Temporary exhibition hall and technical reserve of the museum.

The mural on the main façade is one of the most captivating things to see, made with vitreous ceramics and corrugated iron bars by Guayaquil artist Jorge Swett. You can discover this place and more on the following self-guided tour through the city centre of Guayaquil.
For those looking to dive deeper into the history of these landmarks, we offer two daily experiences: our Guayaquil City Tour, a comprehensive and comfortable journey through the city’s top highlights, or our Multi-Experience Walking Tour, a strategic stroll designed to reveal the best panoramic views in less time.
